Horrifying moment Idaho cops shoot dead two beloved ‘fur babies’ after dogs escaped from owner’s yard

Horrifying footage posted to social media shows the moments after police shot and killed two dogs on the side of an Idaho highway after they escaped from their owner’s yard.

The video was shared by Stephanie Carsner on Facebook and shows the incident that happened Monday on Interstate 84 in Heyburn.

The shocking video shows the moment one of the dogs collapses on the side of the road after being shot by a cop.

The dogs named Luna and Boomer had completely shut down traffic in a section of the highway that motorists could enter at 80 miles per hour.

Officers tried in vain to whistle and call the dogs.

The owner of the “fur babies” has since issued a statement thanking those who tried to save the dogs before they were shot and killed.

In an explanation, the police explained that the dogs created a dangerous situation for motorists who got stuck at the time.

Officers were initially called to the scene for a traffic jam and said they discovered the two large stray dogs upon arrival.

Other drivers had reportedly already endangered their own safety by trying to grab the dogs, but were unsuccessful.

Attempts by the police to control the dogs were also unsuccessful.

“Recognizing that traffic was heavy for Memorial Day, and fearing the motoring public with a high potential for rear-end collisions at 80 mph, officers made the decision to shoot the dogs at 6:03 p.m.,” the officer said. Police. Edition went on to state that neither dog had tags.

“Each dog was shot once and taken off the road,” the press release said.

Carsner claimed she was there to round up the dogs and described the dogs as “non-aggressive” in Facebook posts after the shooting.

She said she almost caught the dogs when officers approached her to ask if the dogs were hers.

“(He) told me to be home, and then told me he was going to shoot them,” Carsner wrote in a Facebook post.

“I yelled no, he’s not because I’m there as a rescue and myself and dozens of others almost had the dogs on my hands,” Carsner continued.

In a post on Facebook, the dog’s owner, Ashley Price, shed light on the situation.

Price said her family was out of town and that Luna and Boomer were being cared for by relatives when the incident happened.

She thanked those who tried to corral the dogs before they were shot.

“We are also VERY relieved that there have been no more accidents from being on the road,” Price wrote.

Price said her “fur babies” were loved and well cared for, but the dogs somehow escaped around 5:30 p.m. and were on the highway shortly after.

The family’s home is gated, she says, so they’re still trying to figure out how they got out and got this far.

“These are the only facts we have at this time that we have put in touch with the police chief and will review their dashboard and body camera videos tomorrow,” Price wrote Tuesday.

She asked for respect and kindness as they mourn the death of their “fur babies.”

Carsner and others now plan to take their concerns to an upcoming city council meeting after saying Mayor Dick Gilbraith ignored their calls.

In their press release, police referenced Carsner’s post and video, saying it highlighted the dangerous issue of stopping on a highway.

Officials also said the matter is still under investigation and they understand the video and subject matter are not easy to deal with.

“These conditions are not easy for first responders or the public,” they said.

However, the woman who shared the video said she questions the police’s information and is calling for the officers to be fired, saying she wants “justice for these fur babies.”
