The dead man was born in the city and had helped organize the Bous Al Correr event, where the incident took place around 7pm on Saturday.
Mr Subies and his friend are said to have attempted to reach safety through a hole in the security fence in front of a house in the area where the bull was released when they became stuck in its path.
The Pamesa director, who had worked for the company for about thirty years, suffered cardiac arrest after being admitted to the emergency room and attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.
Friend Jordi Montagut, export director for another company, said in a social media post: “We will miss you.
‘It’s been many years, many flights, many fairs.
‘It has been a pleasure to share this journey with you. Heaven will look better with the ceramics you put in it.”
Pamesa CEO Jose Manuel Llaneza described his colleague’s death as a “huge blow” and said: “Jose Antonio had spent virtually his entire working life at Pamesa. He was a wonderful person and a special colleague.’
Well-wishers expressed their condolences to Mr Subies’ family via social media.
But reactions to his death also included comments from animal lovers, including one who said: ‘If you don’t know how to fight bulls, why did you do this?
