Horrifying moment family’s RV bursts into flames with grandpa, son and grandson inside as they set off for Grand Canyon road trip
Three generations of a Massachusetts family were injured when their camper exploded just before they left for the Grand Canyon.
A grandfather, father and son were preparing their car for a cross-country adventure Tuesday when it went up in flames in front of their home on Walker Road in Peabody.
Security cameras captured the terrifying moment the camper burst into flames, devastating the neighborhood. The flames were so intense that they melted the facade of the family home.
One of the men was seen running from the fire and rolling on the ground as the fire smoldered.
“We heard a big explosion and then I looked out the window and saw tons of smoke going into the air,” neighbor John O’Donnell said WCVB.

‘It was one big inferno and it seemed like there was nothing you could do anymore.’
The names of the men have not been released, but reports indicate they are aged between 20, 40 and 70. WBZ.
The Peabody Fire Department confirmed that all three victims were talking and alert when they were taken to the hospital, the report said. WHDH.
“They got water on the fire quickly and all the firefighters did a great job keeping the fire from spreading to the homes,” said Fire Chief Jay Dowling.
“It could have been worse. Yes, it could have been deadly. It could have spread to the houses, so it was a great knockout by the fire department.”
Neighbors said the explosions shook their homes and the flames were so intense they melted the facade of the family’s house.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown. The remains of the camper have been towed away.
Only the remains of the vehicle remained and video footage shows that all of the windows, walls and the entire front were destroyed.
The men are well-liked in the community and neighbors report that they regularly go on camping vacations.
“They’re really good people. They’re friends of mine. I was worried about the kids and everybody else,” O’Donnell said.
