A body was discovered in the mouth of a huge Florida alligator as it passed through a canal near Clearwater Friday afternoon.
The A 15-foot-long reptile held its victim tightly between its powerful jaws as it paddled across the waterway in the small town of Largo.
Several locals saw the gruesome scene as the alligator dragged away its prey and began recording the scene while alerting the Largo Fire Department.
Rescuers, working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, managed to pull the alligator from the water before shooting it dead, with officials describing it as “killed humanely.”

“A lot of my neighbors were here and they’re the ones who told me about the alligator. While we were standing here we heard a shot, I assume they killed the alligator,” wrote Jennifer Dean, who lives nearby.
Once the alligator was no longer there, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was able to retrieve the victim’s body from the water. The body has yet to be identified.
“I could see there was a body in his mouth, so I started recording,” JaMarcus Bullard said Bay News 9.
“I went to the fire department and reported it to them,” he said.

A local resident saw the gruesome sight as the alligator dragged its prey and began recording the scene while alerting the Largo Fire Department.
The alligator was later towed away in the back of a pickup truck
Researchers also took the time to examine the alligator, which was nearly four meters long.
It is believed the deadly reptile came from a nearby alligator-infested lake known as Ridgecrest Park.
Investigations are underway to determine the Florida resident’s exact cause of death.
