Horrifying 911 calls minutes after crash that killed Devin Willock

This is the harrowing audio of 911 calls made in the aftermath of a car crash that led to the death of University of Georgia football star Devin Willock.

The offensive lineman, who was not wearing a seatbelt when the SUV in which he was a passenger crashed into a power pole in Athens, Georgia, died at the scene. The driver, Chandler LeCroy, a staff member for the Bulldogs, later died at the hospital.

TMZ obtained Frantic 911 audio from residents near the crash site, panicking at the ‘horrific accident’ that was causing ‘explosions’.

Debris kept a woman trapped inside her apartment.

The SUV crashed into a power pole, setting off a series of explosions, residents said.

Images have emerged from the crash site, after the SUV crashed into a power pole near the homes.

“There was a horrible accident,” a man, the first caller on the audio, tells the switch operator.

There are arc wires. There are people on the ground in the accident vehicle. We think someone might be dead.

“I think one person managed to get out of the vehicle, but there is someone on the ground.”

A resident then calls 911 to alert authorities to the accident, claiming that she was unable to leave her apartment because debris blocked her.

When colliding with a power pole, the transformers exploded and the sparks caused explosions, others would continue to claim.

“All the electricity is still going off here,” another man said, and the operator explained that all units were heading to the site.

UGA OL Devin Willock was not wearing his seat belt when a car driven by Chandler LeCroy lost control and struck multiple objects, police say. Willock was pronounced dead at the scene.

LeCroy was a Georgia native and had been in her role with the Bulldogs since May 2021.

There have been three different explosions… My God, there’s another one. There’s a big live wire here. I mean big, loud explosions.

Another caller added: ‘There is a downed power line. I just saw it explode behind me. There are people below, I’m not sure if they’re okay. You may need lifeguards.

A woman caller mistook the explosion from the transformers for “gunshots” when she called 911.

A police report released Tuesday listed excessive speed on a highway with a 40 mph limit as a leading cause of the accident.

The report also added that Willock was not wearing a seatbelt when the shipwreck occurred at 2:45 a.m. Sunday in Athens, less than two miles from the university campus.

A few hours earlier, the Bulldogs held a parade through town and a ceremony at Sanford Stadium in honor of their second straight national championship.

Two other people were in the car, including offensive lineman Warren McClendon, who had just announced last Saturday that he is entering the NFL draft.

Like LeCroy, McClendon was wearing a lap and shoulder restraint belt while sitting in the right front passenger seat, police said. He suffered only minor injuries, which the Athens-Clarke County police report described as a laceration to the forehead.

LeCroy was driving the vehicle, it lost control and struck utility poles and cars, police say.

Willock was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed, resulting in his death just after celebrating Georgia's national championship victory in a parade just hours earlier.

Last week, Willock and Georgia beat TCU 65-7 for the school’s second straight soccer title.

As a redshirt sophomore, Willock played in all 15 games for the Dawgs, including two starts.

Another Georgia soccer staff member, Victoria Bowles, was hospitalized with serious injuries. She was sitting in the back seat with Willock and was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.

Law enforcement investigators said the 2021 Ford Expedition “was unable to negotiate a left-hand curve, causing the vehicle to strike the curb with the front-passenger tire and run off the roadway on the west shoulder.”

The SUV struck a Georgia Power pole and another utility pole, cutting them in half, before crashing into a tree in the passenger rear panel. That caused the vehicle to spin clockwise before hitting another tree on the driver’s side, where both LeCroy and Willock were sitting.

“This caused the vehicle to spin counterclockwise before coming to final rest against an apartment building,” the report said, adding that a vehicle parked in front of a unit was also struck by the SUV outside of control.
