Horrific turbulence injures seven people – and leaves others covered in food – as serving trolleys and luggage fly through the air on nightmarish flight from Istanbul

Terrible turbulence left seven people injured and others eating after trolleys and luggage flew through the air during a terrifying flight from Istanbul.

Two crew members and five passengers were injured during turbulence on the Turkish Airlines flight to Taipei on September 5.

Two of the 214 passengers were taken to hospital for further treatment. The remaining injured passengers and crew refused to be sent to hospital and followed other passengers through customs.

Taoyuan Airport received a report at 4:59 p.m. that flight TK24 from Istanbul to Taipei, scheduled to land at 5:55 p.m., encountered turbulence and required airport rescue assistance.

The airport company’s fire brigade was immediately called.

According to official reports: ‘Several ambulances and emergency medical personnel were on standby at the scene.

‘The officer on duty led the first response team of the airport company and at the same time alerted the customs clearance unit of the China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQS) to prepare matters related to passenger clearance.

‘After the plane landed, Lianxin staff immediately conducted an investigation of the injured and carried out first aid operations.

‘The plane remained on the ground for approximately four hours before departing on its return flight as scheduled.’

It follows extreme turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore, which left one person dead and several injured after the plane plummeted for several minutes before making an emergency landing in Thailand.

The Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft left Britain’s Heathrow Airport on May 20 with 211 passengers and 18 crew on board.

Flight SQ321 encountered severe turbulence as it flew close to Myanmar airspace, an area currently being hit by extreme tropical thunderstorms.

After a flight time of about 11 hours from takeoff in London, the plane descended sharply from an altitude of about 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet in just five minutes as it crossed the Andaman Sea and approached Thailand.

Terrified passengers said they had barely had time to fasten their seat belts before the plane suddenly crashed.

People who weren’t wearing seat belts were “launched into the ceiling,” one said, with their heads hitting the luggage racks.
