Horrific moment two bikers crash head-on – killing one and seriously injuring the other

A security camera captured the violent moment when two motorcycles collided head-on, killing one driver and injuring another.

The motorcycles were traveling on a road in the Barra Mansa municipality of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday evening when they collided.

The motorcyclists were riding towards each other in opposite directions and were immediately thrown from their seats when the bikes hit each other.

The impact threw both men through the air and onto the road. A group of men chatting next to their bikes and motorcycles scattered.

One of the victims died at the scene and the other motorcyclist, a 24-year-old, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to Brazilian news agency G1, the motorcyclist was still in critical condition in hospital on Thursday.

A report by the Ministry of Health published in March found that more than 1.2 million people were injured in motorcycle accidents in the South American country in 2023.

The southeastern state of São Paulo topped the list with 259,222 injured. The neighboring state of Minas Gerais was second with 127,009 injured, and Bahia, located in the northeast, had 78,679 motorcycle injuries.

The report shows that 12,058 motorcyclists were killed in 2022, but the number of deaths for 2023 is not included.

At least 141,792 people were hospitalized as a result of the accidents.
