A dramatic dashcam has captured the terrifying moment a hatchback crashed into the side of a motorcycle on a busy highway.

The gray Yaris and the motorcycle were traveling in the same direction on Western Distributor in Sydney, with the hatchback in a lane leading to the Anzac Bridge.

Without warning, the Yaris suddenly veered out of the slow-moving lane and into the center lane.

The motorcyclist had no time to react and was hit by the tailgate of the car.

The footage shows the driver’s body and his bicycle hitting the concrete barrier in the middle of the road before ending up back in front of the Yaris in the middle lane.

The driver got out of his vehicle to check on the motorcyclist, who emerged from under his motorcycle.

The confronting images have now been shared on the Facebook page of Dam Cam Car Owners Australia.

Viewers were shocked by the video, while others were divided over why the driver of the Yaris swerved.

One viewer defended the driver of the Yaris, believing he had taken evasive action to avoid a collision with the car in front of him.

Others disagreed.

“It doesn’t look like he was trying to avoid a crash. It looks like he was trying to change lanes to go faster than the others,” one person wrote.

A motorcyclist urged motorists to consider the safety of road users before pulling out of a traffic jam.

“I see it every day, drivers get so tired and impatient waiting to get onto the Anzac Bridge that they turn off and run quickly onto the highway to jump the queue,” he said.

‘I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve braked to avoid a collision.

“Everybody hates you when you do it, and these things can happen. Just wait. Don’t be so ad***. This is what happens. That guy was trying to save a minute, look at him now.”

Others simply felt sorry for the motorcyclist.

“No turn signal, aggressive lane change. The motorcyclist didn’t stand a chance… I hope he’s OK,” said one sympathetic viewer.

Another said: ‘As unlucky as the cyclist was, he was lucky not to go over the central reservation and into oncoming traffic!’
