If you were hoping AMD would launch some new, low-cost RDNA 3 GPUs soon, we have some bad news: unfortunately, the latest rumors suggest that isn’t going to happen.
We’ve heard rumors of an expansion of the current generation of graphics cards before, with the possibility of AMD launching an RX 7400 and RX 7300 – but not according to Bank life.
A report from the Chinese tech website – add some more details if necessary – claims that these GPUs are “not on the AIB development partners list,” meaning they are graphics card manufacturers in China.
If that’s indeed the case, it means the supposed challengers to our list of most affordable, best GPUs likely aren’t coming right now, at least not in consumer-version form (boxed products on shelves).
That still theoretically leaves open the possibility that these low-end GPUs could be made for OEMs (third-party PC manufacturers, so that those companies can directly incorporate them into ready-to-use machines). But even that seems unlikely, especially since Benchlife adds that there has been no confirmation of the existence of such models from the major OEMs (Dell, HP, and Lenovo).
Instead, the report states that everyone (in terms of graphics card manufacturers) is focused on launching next-generation RDNA 4 products.
Analysis: A misunderstanding?
While this is just one report – and it doesn’t come from one of our preferred sources, though we certainly wouldn’t discount Benchlife – it does sound rather bleak for the chances of these graphics card rumors.
So what’s going on, and why were the previous rumors even circulating in the first place? Well, it could simply be that AMD changed its mind, and had plans for an RX 7400 and RX 7300, but they never materialized. Could this even be a sign that the timeframe for the implementation of RDNA 4 has been moved up?
That might seem like a step too far, but we can hope: the latest speculation surrounding the release of AMD’s next-gen GPUs suggests that won’t happen until early 2025, with a reveal at CES 2025, possibly. (Though there is a glimmer of hope that RDNA 4 could release later in 2024 , and maybe – just maybe – this rumor bolsters that prospect.)
What could be the case here, since Video cardzwho discovered the report points out that there has been some confusion over which GPUs AMD has in the works in the near future (since the original leak mentioned Radeon Pro variants of the cards). In other words, there may never have been any plans for a consumer model.
Still, we might just see a low-end RDNA 3 model in pre-built PCs – there is still some hope for this to happen, if we read the report correctly (remember, it is a translation, which always introduces a bit of extra doubt). All in all, this doesn’t seem likely, and the most likely scenario at this point seems to be that the next graphics cards we see from AMD will be RDNA 4 models – unless this report completely misleads us.
