Hootie & the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker arrested on misdemeanor drug charges in Tennessee

Hootie & the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker was arrested on drug charges in Tennessee on Thursday.

The 57-year-old music artist is “fully cooperating with authorities in connection with criminal charges,” according to his attorney Darius Rucker, according to a statement. TMZwho initially broke the news of his arrest.

Rucker, whose hits include Hold My Hand, Only Wanna Be with You and Let Her Cry, was taken into custody in his native Williamson County on three felony charges, two of which were drug-related, the outlet reported.

Rucker was indicted on three separate charges, TMZ reported, including one count of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance; and a vehicle registration violation.

Rucker was transported to a jail at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday and released around 11 a.m.

Rucker, who has reinvented himself as a country singer in recent years, spoke candidly about his past experiences with substance abuse in a May 2013 interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“I did drugs and drank every night,” he told the newspaper at the time. ‘Believe me, I’ve done enough for everyone. And it’s just not how I want to live anymore.’
