Homicide investigation launched after man vanishes without a trace in tiny mining town south of Perth

The disappearance of a man in a small mining town is treated as suspicious and homicide detectives are called in to investigate.

Raymond Smith, 68, was last seen in Greenbushes, 245km south of Perth, about 5pm on December 7.

Western Australian police say he has had no contact with family or friends since, which is out of character.

“Police are seriously concerned about his well-being,” a spokeswoman said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr. Smith is 172 cm tall, has a slim build, shoulder-length hair and a full beard and mustache.

Citizens with information about his whereabouts can contact police.

Greenbushes' mining operations produce tantalite, lithium, tin and kaolin.

The city has approximately 360 inhabitants.
