Homeworld 3 delayed again, now launching in 2024

Homeworld 3 has been delayed and will now launch in February 2024, Gearbox Software announced on Thursday. The schedule change confirms what fans already suspected, as the sci-fi real-time strategy game was previously slated to launch sometime in the first half of this year.

In a Twitter statement, Gearbox said the delay is to give those fans “the quality experience.” [they] deserve.” The studio added that “we need more time to refine and polish the game.” Home world 3 launches on Windows PC.

Blackbird Interactive, who made the spin-off/prequel Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak for Gearbox in 2016, is developing Home world 3 since 2017.

This creates the second delay Home world 3whose first launch window was 2022. The series dates back to 1999, but has not seen a main series since its 2003 release Home world 2 (although a remastered version of that was launched in 2015).

The series’ dormancy stems from the bankruptcy and liquidation of former publisher THQ 10 years ago; Gearbox’s acquisition of the franchise; a crowdfunding campaign to support the highly anticipated sequel; and then Embracer Group’s acquisition of Gearbox, which suspended that campaign.
