This comes after the TV presenter spoke candidly about the mental impact of his near-death experience after undergoing emergency heart surgery in 2022.
Martin previously told how he was told he had ‘a few hours to live’ after finding out he was suffered from pericardial effusion, which is a buildup of fluid in the structure surrounding the heart, and underwent emergency surgery that saved his life.
Two years later, Martin is still struggling with the mental consequences of the operation and explains how it has changed his attitude to life. He admits: ‘I was told to slow down, but I did the opposite.’
In an interview with The mirror he confessed: ‘I can’t underestimate the mental effects of what happened to me. The physical things you get over, but the overwhelming thought is that it could all have ended.
“Everything you tried to do, and your family, you realize it could all be gone. I was told to slow down and I went the other way. Hopefully I have many more years, but you never know.
