CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — First responders in Tennessee surveyed damage from an apparent tornado that damaged homes Saturday as a series of severe storms hit the area.
Police and firefighters in Clarksville responded to multiple reports of damage in the northern part of the city, which is north of Nashville near the Kentucky state line.
Residents were asked to stay home while first responders assessed the situation.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that a tornado touched down around 2 p.m. and damaged several homes. The statement said there were no confirmed injuries or missing persons, but the area was being searched.
A shelter was set up at a local high school.
City of Clarksville spokesman Jimmy Settle said in an email that he had no further information on the number of buildings damaged or possible injuries.
The National Weather Service has issued multiple tornado warnings in Tennessee and said it planned to investigate an area where an apparent tornado struck in Kentucky.
