A homeless man sleeping in his car has stunned onlookers after playing “absolutely amazing” piano tunes that help him get away from his hard life on the streets.
Shane plays the piano every day and night in a pedestrian tunnel under the Queensland Performing Arts Center in South Brisbane.
The “incredibly gifted” man who said he never took lessons or owned a piano has played some dramatic music – which has been praised by listeners.
“I was just walking past and had to stop, absolutely amazing – I’m surprised to be honest,” a man walking by told me 7News.
“One of the best pianists I’ve ever seen,” said another spectator.

Shane lives in his car a few blocks from the theater and said playing the piano has had a therapeutic effect on him.
“It takes me to a place outside of reality, away from what’s around us. I hear an orchestra in my head, the piano is playing me instead of me playing the piano,” said the musician.
Shane plays the instrument which is freely available to the public, even though he doesn’t know the names of the keys and how to read music.
He said that as a child he first heard the sound of a piano coming from a ballet school in the same neighborhood and now dreams of performing with others one day.
