Home owner is slammed for hosing her yard while her neighbour’s house bursts into flames and filming a video of the moment – and only THEN calling Triple Zero – before justifying her actions with a compelling explanation

A homeowner has been criticized on social media after filming a video of herself hosing down her backyard – as a raging fire engulfed her neighbor’s property.

The terrifying fire broke out at a property – somewhere in NSW – around midday on Wednesday.

Shocking footage of the wild scenes shows the woman apparently trying to wet her garden and the outside of her home instead of the flames.

The video showed the terrifying fire breaking out after it appeared to have started in the back bedroom of the home.

Plumes of thick smoke can be seen rising into the air as the fire continues to burn unchecked as the woman squirts water from her garden hose in vain.

The homeowner keeps her distance from the fire as she sprays water haphazardly over her lawn.

Moments later, she tries to get closer to the fire raging over the neighbor’s fence, in an apparent attempt to extinguish parts of the fire.

The water from the hose is clearly pointed in the wrong direction as she retreats from the fire.

Several dogs can be heard barking hysterically in the background. Captions on the video describe the moments leading up to the horrific fire.

“My neighbor’s house caught fire,” wrote the person who filmed the scene.

“I was outside with my dogs when it started.”

The woman noted that she heard a “pop-pop” sound, similar to that of a circuit breaker, before the fire broke out.

She said the sound was followed by screams from the neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter.

The woman is seen standing several feet away from the fence in the video as the fire continues to burn.

“F*** me,” she says. “That’s pretty bad.”

She instructed her daughter to ‘evacuate’ the house as she bizarrely began shouting ‘for someone to call 911’.

The video then shows the woman frantically throwing the snake away as she begins to flee the scene.

“F*** I’m out,” she says.

She then states that she called Triple Zero at 12:04 p.m., four minutes after the fire is believed to have started.

The video then cuts to the woman appearing to be standing under a pergola in her property.

She turns the camera on her phone to look at the burning house.

“Oh my God, the whole backside is gone,” she says.

She said she “suffered” superficial burns to her face while watering parts of the fence and grass on her property.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the NSW Rural Fire Service for comment.

The woman’s act was condemned by social media users, some of whom were baffled by her bizarre attempt to fight the fire.

“The house next door is on fire and you’re watering your garden,” said one user.

“To confirm, you filmed a TikTok and splashed your hose around for four minutes BEFORE calling the fire department…” wrote another.

“Maybe put the phone down and try a little harder next time.”

Others pointed out that the woman tried to save her own home from the fire by watering parts of the area where the fire had breached the hole.

“They do this to prevent their house from catching fire,” one person wrote.

‘With that tube it was impossible to save the house next door. Watering their property protects their home (sic),” said another.

The woman later revealed in the video that her goal “was not to put out the fire.”

The woman said she told her daughter to ‘evacuate’ her home as the fire continued to burn unchecked, while she bizarrely began shouting ‘for someone to call 911’ after seeing water spraying her garden hose.

She said she watered the area to “keep the heat away from my house.”

“I am a qualified forensic fire technician,” she wrote in the caption.

“I knew what I was doing.”

She urged others in a similar situation to leave their homes immediately, saying those who are not qualified to carry out the task should not undertake her act.
