People have stated that they have been “living a lie” after discovering that they have been using cooking oil incorrectly for years.
A TikTok video recently surfaced of someone revealing the correct way to measure vegetable or sunflower oil from a bottle – and for many home cooks, it’s a game changer.
The clip, posted on the Foodies TikTok channel, showed someone opening a bottle of oil with a ring-shaped cap.
While many would throw away the cap after pulling it off the top of the bottle, this amateur chef revealed that it’s actually a very convenient use to measure the oil.
After the video was published, people declared that they would never use oil the same way again, The sun reports.

In the short video, posted on TikTok, you can see how someone pulls off the green ring cap that can be found on all bottles of oil.
While most people would throw the cap away, this crafty cook puts it back into the hole at the top of the bottle instead.
They turn it upside down and put it in the bottle before pouring out the oil, which now has a barrier to prevent too much from spilling out.

In response to the video, a TikTok user said, “So I’ve been lying all my life.”

However, others decided the clever hack wasn’t something they needed to know and declared the tip “unnecessary.”
