Home and Away fans are divided over a storyline Summer Bay will rock in the coming weeks, as many called it ‘absolutely stupid’.
Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger) left Summer Bay last month to visit the city for a health check and will return with new girlfriend Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo).
A teaser for next week’s episodes showed the pair arriving back in town after meeting in a hospital when Bronte was ‘in a decent state’, with Irene saying she could live with her until she got back on her feet.
But it soon turns out that the hapless Bronte is not what she seems when she talks to someone on the phone about how to exploit Irene.
The fans were left divided by the dramatic turn of events. Many took to social media to rage about the ‘ridiculous’ storyline, claiming the scam was too ‘predictable’.

“I don’t like this storyline already,” one fan complained, while another said there have been “too many con stories over the years.”
Others noted that the plot was similar to a recent storyline about Leah (Ada Nicodemou), who returned from a mental health retreat with a mysterious new friend who wanted to exploit her.
“Oh dear, we just had Leah manipulated, now this. Predictable,” said another social media user.
“What an absolutely stupid storyline this is going to be. Been there, done that,” someone else replied.
“I’m getting sick of some of these storylines. I don’t think I want to watch Home and Away anymore. It’s getting ridiculous,” another fan commented.

Viewers also complained about the sheer number of negative storylines involving Irene, a fan-favorite character who has been on the show since 1993.

“Oh no…someone else in Summer Bay to abuse/manipulate/rip off/torture Irene. How much can this woman take?’ one fan protested.
‘Here we go again. Didn’t something similar happen to Irene a few years ago? Once bitten, twice shy,” someone else complained.
Another user echoed these sentiments, saying, “Give her a break, will you?”
