Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage phones in to Channel Seven’s annual Telethon and donates $5000

Nicolas Cage shocked Channel Seven staff on Sunday by making a surprise phone call to their fundraising center to donate to their annual Telethon.

The Hollywood star, 59, is currently in Western Australia filming a movie and called the Telethon hotline to pledge $5000 to a children’s charity.

Host Rick Ardon, 59, told the Telethon panel that he received a “very special phone call” yesterday and played a recording of Cage pledging his money.

‘Hi, I’m Nick Cage. I’d love to be with you right now, but I’m filming down south. Please donate to Telethon to help some children and maybe save lives,” Cage said.

“Nice effort, plus Cage made us $5,000,” an excited Ardon added.

Channel Seven’s annual Telethon was a huge success this year as it raised a record $77.5 million for children’s charities.

It comes as Sunrise presenter Matt Shirvington turned up the heat on Sunday as he channeled Tom Cruise in Risky Business in Seven’s record-breaking Telethon in Perth.

The TV presenter, 44, dressed up as Cruise’s character in the iconic 1983 film as he took to the stage to recreate the iconic scene of him singing Old Time Rock and Roll.

Shirvo looked every inch a superstar in a crisp white shirt that he teamed with matching boxer shorts and dancing shoes.

He wore Ray-Ban sunglasses and his hair was slicked back in a perfect representation of Cruise’s forward-thinking ’80s style.
