Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg’s heartfelt appeal to save public golf course during a round after plans to split it in half were announced

Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg has taken a break from a round of golf to make an urgent plea to save the Australian course he played on.

Wahlberg – who looked every bit the part of a golfer in a smartly dressed sweater, slacks, cap and white gloves – made a plea to the NSW government not to close the Moore Park Golf Course in Sydney’s east to create a public park to create.

“I know I am not a citizen of Australia, but I am begging you to save Moore Park Golf Club,” Wahlberg said in a video on Saturday.

‘It’s been here for over 100 years and has given people pleasure and joy for hundreds and hundreds of years.

‘Just that people can come outside and enjoy a healthy walk, spend quality time with family and friends.

“Please, I’ve seen a lot of parks and I haven’t seen so many beautiful public golf courses like this that are open to everyone. Please save Moore Park Golf Club.”

The public still has 12 days to submit comments on the plan to split the course in half and segregate 45 acres for other uses.

About 20 of those acres will be converted into a public park.

“Sydney has changed significantly over the past century,” NSW Premier Chris Minns said when announcing the plan.

‘When the golf course was first built, the surrounding areas were largely industrial.

“As we work to tackle the housing crisis facing NSW through construction, we know that delivering public infrastructure, including parks, is more important than ever before.

‘There is huge demand from residents in the city for a variety of community sports facilities in the city’s interior, and with further density planned this will only increase.’

Wahlberg came to Australia in late February and was spotted in Sydney in recent weeks while reportedly filming a movie in the country.
