As Paris Fashion Week draws to a close, experts are warning US celebrities not to bring back bed bugs as souvenirs.
The French government launched a concerted effort to combat the creepy crawlies after videos circulated online showing the insects invading the country’s capital.
“Bed bugs are very capable hitchhikers, so the chance that they can catch a ride from infected Paris to the United States remains high,” Dr. Jim Fredericks senior public affairs VP at the National Pest Management Association. TMZ.
Dr. Fredericks said: ‘Any celebrities who have attended fashion shows or slept in bougie hotels in Paris should thoroughly inspect their luggage and bedding – and that includes those who have stayed in the fanciest hotels.’
Dozens of American celebrities took to the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week, including A-listers like Paris Hilton, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and many more in attendance.
The French government launched a concerted effort to combat bed bugs after videos circulated online showing the insects invading the country’s capital.
Footage shared online showed the insects crawling over seats on the Paris metro, high-speed trains and at Paris’s Charles-de-Gaulle airport.

Kendall Jenner closed out the Schiaparelli Spring/Summer 2024 and then hit the town for a night out in Paris.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s past and present lovers were at the Chanel show. Gigi Hadid, 28, and Vittoria Ceretti, 25, walked the runway as Camila Morrone, 26, watched from the star-studded front row.
Other celebrities such as Ashley Graham, Laverne Cox and Nicky Rothschild attended fashion shows throughout the week.
Dr. Fredericks said anyone visiting Paris should wash all their clothes thoroughly and dry them on a high temperature.
Richard Barrie, founder of The Bed Bugs Experts, shared the steps you can take to get rid of the bugs.
“Steam your bed and place interceptors on the feet to keep them from getting to you,” Barrie said.
Users shared photos and videos online of their experiences with the infection. One in ten households in the country is now infected
French hotels and Airbnbs are suffering from an alarming surge in bed bugs, with one in 10 households in the country now infested.
Research shows that 11 percent of French households have struggled with the outbreak of blood-sucking insects between 2017 and 2022.
Paris City Hall urged President Emmanuel Macron’s government to help with the scourge, including by setting up a special task force.
Signs of bed bugs include bites on your skin, small black spots on your mattress, blood stains on your sheets, and an unpleasant, musty odor.
Experts say bed bugs do not pose a risk of spreading disease, but they can be a major nuisance.
