A pool of sun-worshipping TikTokers has shared images of their gruesome burns, with redness, swelling and scaly skin being the running themes.

Ellie Buchanan from St. Louis, Missouri shared a video showing the gradual stages of her sunburn after a trip to Florida.

In the captions, she explains that she was “excited” to get her tan, but any hopes of a bronzed complexion were quickly dashed when she didn’t apply sunscreen.

She thought sleep might help, but when she awoke the next morning, her face was very swollen, with small blisters on her skin, her eyes were puffy, and her lips had almost doubled in size.

After the redness subsided, photos show how her skin developed and peeled off a leathery texture.

At one point she couldn’t open any of her eyes or see anything because her eyelids were so swollen.

By the time she got to the airport to go home, her whole face started to peel.
