Hogwarts Legacy now lets you turn off all the spiders

Harry Potter fans who have so far avoided the spider-infested Forbidden Forest Hogwarts legacy will finally get some relief: WB Games and developer Avalanche Software have rolled out a new “arachnophobia mode” option for Hogwarts legacywhich removes the game’s eight-legged creepy crawlies and replaces them with something much less threatening.

That’s better news for you Hogwarts legacy players – who are also afraid of spiders – who have waited so long to play the game on last-gen consoles. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts legacy are out on those platforms this Friday, and they’re getting the new Arachnophobia mode from day one.

According to WB Games’ extensive patch noteshere’s what Hogwarts legacythe arachnophobia mode changes.

  • Changes all appearances of enemy spiders
  • Reduces and removes spin skitter and squealing
  • Removes spawners with minor spider ground effects
  • Makes static spider bodies invisible in the world
  • Collision is still active to prevent players from getting stuck when switching this setting
  • Please note that images of spiders in the Field Guide will remain unchanged

Here’s a tease of what spiders (and Acromantula) look like with Arachnophobia Mode turned on – basically a balloon with glowing eyes and roller skates:

And this is how it looks in the game:

You may be wondering, “…roller skates?” This is clearly a reference to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Ron Weasley casts the Riddikulus spell on the Boggart – a very large spider, in Ron’s eyes – in defense of Professor Lupine against the dark arts class. Ron’s charm gives the Boggart roller skates, diminishing his terrifying power.

Hogwarts legacyThe latest patch rolled out Thursday and includes more than 500 bug fixes and overall gameplay and performance improvements, WB says. The game is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. A Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts legacy is due in July.

Arachnophobic-friendly games are all the rage right now. Respawn Entertainment launched last week Star Wars Jedi: Survivor with an anti-spin setting.
