Hocus Pocus star Omri Katz reveals he was ‘high’ during filming of the 1993 hit Halloween film

Omri Katz played the character Max Dennison in the 1993 Halloween cult classic Hocus Pocus.

And the actor revealed that he was high during parts of the filming of the movie, according to his new interview with Weekly entertainment.

The 46-year-old actor was 16 when he played the part, adding that the filming was “at an age when I started experimenting with cannabis. Let’s say, some of those scenes, I had the good old days.’

Omri, not remembering which scenes he was high in, said, “I’ll tell you what I do remember: I performed wrong and didn’t hit my keys or numbers.”

The director Kenny Ortega came up to him during one scene, “practically” grabbed his shirt and said, “Are you high?”

Omri said he said ‘no’ and of course I was, adding that ‘we made it happen, but that was kind of a wake-up call, like, Omri, you need to be a little more professional and take care make sure you hit your cues!’

His co-star Vinessa Shaw, who played his interest Allison, said she remembered it being the scene where he was zapped by Bette Midler’s character Winifred Sanderson during the interview.

“Yeah, but it didn’t look like I was getting zapped,” Omri said, adding, “Looks like I was getting high.”

Omri was not part of the sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, which was released on Disney Plus in 2022.

The film follows the Sanderson sisters in modern-day Salem.

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy all reprized their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson.

Doug Jones, who played Billy Butcherson in the original film, also reprized his role in the sequel.

Omri, Vinessa and Thora Birch did not return for the sequel; while Omri and Vinessa were not called back, Thora, who played Dani Dennison, had scheduling conflicts.
