With the Halloween holiday approaching, many fans will likely watch or rewatch the hit sequel Hocus Pocus 2, which just set a new streaming record.
The highly anticipated sequel – which debuted on Disney Plus on September 30 – racked up a whopping 2.7 billion watch minutes in the week of September 27 through October 2 via Deadline.
That figure set a new movie streaming record for most minutes watched, surpassing the 2.2 billion minutes fans watched Disney’s Encanto from December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022.

However, Netflix’s critically acclaimed miniseries Dahmer still took the top spot that week, with a total of 4.4 billion minutes watched that week.
Hocus Pocus 2’s numbers are even more impressive since it debuted on Friday and had no viewers for the first four days of Nielsen’s viewing period, with 2.2 billion views only for the first three days.
Hocus Pocus 2 brought the three protagonists who played the Sanderson Sisters – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – back to modern-day Salem, Massachusetts.

Viewing audiences were spread across many different demographics, with 2-to-11 year olds, 18-34 year olds, and 35-to-49 year olds each accounting for 25%.
The Spanish audience also accounted for about 21% of viewers, while the sequel also brought the original 1993 Hocus Pocus movie back into the top 10.
The original film garnered 774 million viewership minutes, reaching seventh place on the charts from September 27 to October 2.

It’s also worth noting that Nielsen’s streaming rankings only take into account viewing on a TV screen, meaning mobile viewing is not counted.
Dahmer improved in its first week on the charts, racking up 3.7 billion minutes of viewership, with its second weekly count of 4.4 billion minutes now one of the best streaming weeks of all time.
The count represents the seventh largest streaming week since Nielsen began counting U.S. streaming in 2020.

In third place for the week of September 27-October 2, Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is ranked fourth with 966 million minutes watched and HBO Max’s House of the Dragon is in fourth place with 907 million minutes watched.
The original Netflix movie Lou (starring Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett) rounded out the top 5 with 802 million minutes of viewing.
Netflix’s Cocomelon finished in sixth place with 782 million views, and Netflix’s NCIS (748 million), In The Dark (665 million) and Cobra Kai (653 million) rounded out the top 10.
