Integration of HMIS, other HIS portals wanted
India’s Health Minister Apurva Chandra has called for integration of the country’s Health Management Information System with other public sector health information systems.
This should “reduce the workload of health officials and ensure that data is uploaded in a timely manner and carefully analysed,” the minister said.
The call follows the publication of this year’s Health Dynamics of India, a document that serves as a source of information on the manpower and infrastructure within the National Health Mission.
University of Mumbai launches AI project targeting PCOS, female cancer
The University of Mumbai aims to develop AI models for early detection of diseases in women.
It was reported that the university has reached out to hospitals to form a network where it can tap into patient case studies to build AI models. For example, the AI could be used to better understand polycystic ovary syndrome in Indian women.
AI models are also being considered to support the diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer.
In addition to hospitals, the University of Mumbai is also looking to collaborate with other higher education institutions. The university recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Purdue University and Saint Louis University. It is also keen to involve the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, which is currently working on a similar project.
AI course for healthcare professionals launched
The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, one of India’s leading institutes for AI research, recently launched an online course on AI fundamentals for healthcare professionals.
With over 200 participants, the 12-week course aims to equip learners with the skills required to understand, evaluate, and apply AI technologies in clinical settings. The AI for Medical Professionals course, developed in partnership with the Institute’s IHub-Data and the National Academy of Medical Sciences, also offers certification.
