A Chicago weatherman was pleasantly surprised when he discovered the screen he used every day to display the local weather was in fact an interactive touch-screen.
Greg Dutra, who has worked as a weatherman and meteorologist for ABC 7 Chicago for three years, made the startling discovery live on-air during a Thursday morning broadcast.
While showing local residents the forecasted rain on his map, Dutra accidentally touched the screen, slightly moving it, leading him to exclaim: ‘Oh, I moved the map! I can do that?’
‘No way,’ Dutra said as he continued to play with the map by moving it around. Val Warner, another news anchor, not seen on camera, asked Dutra if he ‘just discovered that?’
ABC 7 Chicago weatherman Greg Dutra found to his delight that the screen he works with each day to show the weather was in fact an interactive touch screen that was able to zoom and tilt
Dutra has worked for the station for three years, according to his LinkedIn profile. After posting the wholesome clip to Twitter, it garnered over one million views
Fellow morning news anchor Terrell Brown then leaped out of his seat, declaring he’s ‘got to try that.’
Brown walked over to Dutra, who can’t shed his massive smile, and moved his fingers on the touch-screen while he whooped in delight.
As if it couldn’t get any more exciting for Dutra, he then asked, ‘Can I zoom?’ before using his fingers to zoom in on a specific map location, which caused Brown to double-over in laughter as Dutra announced, ‘It’s a great day!’
The weatherman then attempts to get back on track and told the audience ‘temperatures are warming up nicely this afternoon’ while he grinned from ear-to-ear.
But Dutra’s fellow morning news crew had other plans, asking him again how he ‘did not know that,’ to which the frazzled meteorologist responded: ‘I’ve never touched it before!’
Dutra then discovered yet another feature while swiping the screen and learned you can tilt the overhead view the map provides.
‘Oh my gosh! you can tilt it?! What’s going on here?’ he asked before jolting himself back to reality and the live show he was presenting.
Dutra posted the clip to Twitter and joked, ‘This wasn’t in the training manual!’ while he admitted he went ‘off the rails’ in the wholesome clip.
The clip garnered over 1.3 million views on Twitter.
While many Twitter users capitalize off of a viral tweet for their own gain, Dutra simply said ‘I’ve got nothing to sell or plug except be nice to those around you. Everyone’s going through something.’
