A hiker has tragically died after falling 30 meters and a paraglider has been seriously injured during a horror weekend on a popular Queensland mountain.

The woman was hiking Mount Beerwah, in the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast, when she fell from a 100-foot fall at around 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities spent the night working to recover the body, with the woman not yet formally identified by police.

The fatal accident came just hours after a paraglider had to be rescued after being blown off a cliff.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Ambulance Service said the paraglider was jumping off a path known as the Organ Pipes when it was slammed into the side of the mountain.

‘[It appears] it launched and was blown back by the wind and hit the mountain,” she said.

The man, in his fifties, suffered significant injuries to his head, chest and spine and broke his legs.

He was transported by helicopter to Royal Brisbane Hospital in serious condition.

In a third incident, emergency services were called to the mountain at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday after a male hiker fell 33 feet (10 m) into a canyon.

The man, in his 20s, is said to have been walking along the northern path when he lost his footing and plunged several feet.

A RACQ LifeFlight helicopter – which had been deployed to recover the woman’s body – was diverted to take the walker to safety.

A paramedic was lowered off the cliff to treat the man for a dislocated shoulder before he was strapped onto a stretcher and lifted into the helicopter.

He was taken to Sunshine Coast Hospital for treatment.
