The five-day search for a hiker who disappeared near a mountain range has ended with the discovery of his body.
The 20-year-old was last seen about to climb Mount Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The disappearance of the Mountain Creek man sparked an extensive search in the dense bushland, using drones and helicopters.
The young man’s body was discovered on the northwestern slope of the mountain on Thursday afternoon. ABC News reported.
Queensland Police are now working with other first responders to retrieve the body.
It is understood by the hiker while climbing steep terrain.

“Police are treating this man’s death as merely an accident,” Senior Sergeant Michael Froggatt said.
“We believe he slipped and fell off the edge of the cliff.”
It is currently unknown how long the man has been dead.
“He was about three-quarters of the way up the mountain towards the top of Mount Beerwah,” Senior Sergeant Froggatt said.
“But knowing the distance he traveled to where he landed, we cannot say.
“Once the coroner begins his investigation, we can find out those details.”
The 20-year-old’s death is not considered suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Hiking trails on the mountain reopened to the public Thursday afternoon.
They had been closed for almost a fortnight due to the recent wet weather.
The death of the 20-year-old Sunshine Coast man is the second on Mount Beerwah in two years.
A female hiker from Currimundi, 28, fell on the eastern side of the mountain in March 2023.
