High street alive and well, says Crew boss as clothing brand greets high Christmas sales

The boss of Crew Clothing has stated that Britain’s High Street is ‘certainly not dead’ after shoppers flocked to buy Christmas party outfits.

The British preppy clothing company saw total sales jump 15 percent in the seven weeks to January 8, driven by a post-pandemic return of festive fun.

Online partnerships with big names, including John Lewis and Next, helped boost digital sales.

While shoppers are facing higher household bills, the retailer said it has seen “strong sales growth” and gained market share so far in January.

Strong street artists such as Marks and Spencer, Primark and Next have enjoyed celebratory cheers, while online rivals such as Asos and Boohoo have struggled to maintain their pandemic successes amid the cost of living crisis.

“The British high street is certainly not dead,” said David Butler, CEO of Crew Clothing.

“Current trading is in line with our expectations and we are positive on the current outlook for 2023 as we continue to invest in our growth.”
