High school basketball star Noah Scurry shot dead at 17 by his mom’s car in Philadelphia

A teenage basketball player has been shot dead outside his home in Philadelphia.

Noah Scurry, 17, a basketball player at Sameul Fels High School, was killed Tuesday morning as he got into his mother’s car to go to school.

Police said they have recovered a Jeep that may be linked to the fatal shooting, but they are still working to determine a motive.

“No arrests have been made and no weapon has been recovered,” Philadelphia police told TMZ.

Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the shooting.

A neighbor of Scurry told NBC10 Philadelphia, “It was multiple shots at the same time. The first thing I thought was grabbing my son and throwing him to the ground.’

Another neighbor said, “I heard gunshots – several – and then just screams from the mother. I can still hear the mother’s mother crying when I see her baby lying on that floor.”

“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you of the passing of one of our students, whose life was tragically taken this morning near his home,” said his high school principal Melissa Rasper in an open letter published on the school’s social media. .

“Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of this student.

“The student recently scored the highest in the Fels community on the SAT placement tests.

“He also played on the basketball team and for that reason our boys basketball games are canceled for the rest of the week.”

A GoFundMe has also been set up to help cover the costs of Scurry’s funeral, with the aim of raising $3,500.

The biography says of Scurry: “Noah, only 17 years old, had such a caring and loving heart. He would do anything for his family, but especially for his brothers and sisters.

“He was one of the top students at his school and had the highest SAT placement test score of his entire class.

“His love for basketball had been with him ever since he was a young child. He played on the school basketball team and was scouted for colleges.”
