An Australian has revealed he only had to undergo one week of training and now earns $50 an hour maintaining tall buildings.

The Sydney man discussed his salary and experience in an interview with Getahead, an app that connects job seekers with employment opportunities in Australia.

The video went viral on TikTok and has been viewed nearly 25,000 times since it was first uploaded on Friday.

The man said he works on skyscrapers, performing tasks ranging from cleaning windows to helping maintain or restore the integrity of buildings.

“We always do a different type of work, it can be like repair work because sometimes old buildings have cracks,” he said.

“It can be anywhere from $45 to $50 and sometimes it’s more. It depends on what kind of work we do.”

No university degree is required for the position.

According to leading employment website SEEK, the average cable worker earns $80,000 to $90,000 a year, with some pulling in as much as $100,000.

The Australian explained that he does not find the work particularly dangerous and said there is a second safety rope to fall back on.

While there is no doubt that a fear of heights is essential to the role, he said he quite enjoyed the abseiling part of the job.

‘We are on two ropes. If you fall from that, you have it.’

Some social media users were surprised by the amount of money high-rise workers earn.

Others said it was important to remember that most people wouldn’t be able to do that kind of work.

“Add to that the fact that 95 percent of people couldn’t do it,” said one.

“Some buildings are fifty stories high, don’t think many buildings have that in them,” wrote another.
