A high-profile inmate is found DEAD in his prison cell as police investigate whether other inmates beat him to death
A ‘high-profile’ prisoner has been found dead in his cell at Hakea Prison in Perth – the prison is on lockdown.
The Western Australian reports that the man was presumably beaten to death in the maximum security prison.
St John Ambulance paramedics responded to a call at around 8.20am from Canning Vale maximum security prison but the man in his 40s could not be rescued.
The state prison is a male-only facility that the Western Australian government says is aimed at ‘rehabilitation’.
At least four inmates were scheduled to appear in Perth courtrooms via video link, but all have been canceled following the incident.
