Iconic game designer and founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, talked a little more about his upcoming action spy gameand revealed that he decided to make it largely due to constant demand from fans
The game, which has the working title ‘Doctor,” is a brand new IP developed in collaboration with Sony. The intention is that production will then fully start Death Stranding 2: On the beachwhich will be released in 2025. While details are very vague at the moment, Kojima spoke more about his decision to create the title and went into some detail about his desire to “transcend the barriers between film and video games” in a new version. ‘HideoTube’ presentation.
In the presentation, Kojima reiterated his previous claim that the upcoming project “will be both a game and a movie at the same time,” adding, “Of course it will be a game. But if your mom comes in and sees you playing this game, she’ll think you’re watching a movie.” However, he also qualified his statement: “I’m not sure yet how far we can go.”
Kojima also spoke about his career since becoming an independent game designer, noting that while he focused on newer ideas, online fans continually asked him to return to the spy genre.
“Every day for the past eight years, users from all over the world have asked me on social media for another one Metal gear and things like that,” he said.
“Then I got sick in 2020. It was also during the pandemic, so I was sick and isolated all the time. I even had surgery. And I thought, ‘I can’t do it anymore.’ I was at my lowest level and felt like I couldn’t go back to making games,” he explained. ‘I also wrote a will. And at that moment I realized that people die. But last year I turned 60. In ten years I will be 70. I hope never to retire. That said, I figured if the users wanted it that much, I might have to change my priorities a bit. I still want to do new things, but I decided to make an action spy game.”
He went on to say that he gets “a lot of requests from Hollywood to make movies,” which he has turned down because he can’t leave his business behind. Kojima added: “I was in a difficult situation and I talked to Guillermo del Toro about it. And he said, ‘Hideo, what you’re making is already a movie. Continue as you are.’ His words saved me. And because we will be working with so many creators in the industry, even if it is a game, the result will not be much different from films.”
Chances are it will be a while before we can expect it Doctor to release, but with horror project O.DAnd Death stranding 2 on the horizon is an exciting time for fans of Kojima’s work.
