Entire suburb put in lockdown at Hervey Bay over police stand-off with armed man
Residents of Hervey Bay, Queensland, are being urged to stay away from an entire suburb after a man threatened police with a knife.
Queensland Police were called to an address on Boat Harbour Drive in Urangan, on the Fraser Coast, at around 12pm following reports of a disturbance.
Upon arrival, a man was found armed with a knife and threatening police.
Police declared a state of emergency under the Public Safety Preservation Act at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday.
An exclusion zone consisting of Boat Harbour Dr, Lavell St, Hammond St and Toni St remains in place until further notice.
Although there is no threat to public safety, residents are advised to avoid the area.
“There is no further information at this time,” police said in a statement.
