An elderly man has died after he was allegedly beaten to death with a walking stick by another patient on a Queensland hospital ward, detectives say.
Police launched an investigation after the 84-year-old victim was allegedly attacked by another patient in his 70s on March 24.
It is believed the elderly man was attacked as he slept in a hospital bed in a ward he shared with his attacker at Hervey Bay Hospital, 300km north of Brisbane.
He died of his injuries two days later on March 26.

“Initial investigations indicate that a man allegedly attacked an 84-year-old man from Torquay with a walking stick on March 24,” a police spokesperson said. The courier post.
The police are investigating witness statements that the man who committed the violent assault was a dementia patient in the hospital.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and no charges have been filed.
