A heroic mother-of-two who tried to break up a fight between teenage girls has lost a kidney and is in an induced coma after allegedly being stabbed multiple times.
Kristie McBride, 39, was stabbed in the head and torso outside a house on Wiget Way, in Warrawong, in the NSW Illawarra region south of Sydney, at about 6.30pm on Wednesday.
Four teenage girls aged 13, 14 and two 15-year-olds have now been arrested and charged over the alleged attack.
Ny Breaking Australia understands a gang of up to five teenage girls – including a 12-year-old – allegedly arrived armed with knives and threatened to stab one of Ms McBride’s young relatives.
A family member said the attack was sparked by an alleged cyberbullying incident.
The group of girls allegedly threatened to attack another teenage girl living in the Warrawong home.
“They all had knives and said they were going to stab her in the throat,” said a relative.

“(Ms McBride) then ran outside and they (allegedly) stabbed her in the driveway.
“They were here for five seconds and (presumably) stabbed her and ran into the road.”
Family members had gathered at the house after the allegedly threatening messages were sent.
It is understood Ms McBride was not the target of the alleged attack.
She has undergone surgery and now temporarily needs a colostomy bag after her intestines and spleen were also damaged during the attack.
The mother is in an induced coma and is expected to remain in hospital for several weeks.
The girls accused of being involved in the attack had warned their intended target that they were coming.
“We don’t know them,” said a relative. “It was after they fought back and forth on the Internet and they said, ‘We’re coming to fight you, no guns, no police.’
The relative said they believed the group had brought knives as ‘intimidation’, but only one member of the girl gang – who traveled from Sydney – is believed to have caused any harm.
“My mother and I chased the girls up the street to the highway,” the relative said.
“We’re doing well to hear she’s stable, but we’re all devastated in the house.”
Blood-stained clothing was strewn across the driveway after towels and clothing were used to stop Ms McBride’s bleeding.
Ms McBride remains in hospital in critical condition, police said on Thursday.
Neighboring homes on Wiget Way were seen with boarded up windows and doors in an area where several homes are believed to be housing commission properties.
Children’s toys could also be seen at the front of neighboring houses, while some houses displayed Christmas decorations.

One resident said violence had become such a standard feature in the neighborhood that she no longer wanted to bring her children to the suburb.
Police confirmed they have charged four teenagers in connection with the attack.
“Earlier today, three female teenagers – aged 13, 14 and 15 – were arrested and charged. They remain in court,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
‘Following further inquiries, officers attended a house in Narellan Vale and executed a search warrant at 8.45am on Thursday, arresting a 15-year-old girl.
“She was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and affray.
“She was refused bail to appear in the children’s court today.”
