A dog ‘Ruby’ came to the rescue of her owner after he slipped under the ice of a frozen lake in Michigan.
The 65-year-old man fell through the ice in Arbutus Lake in East Bay Township, Michigan, at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 18.
Concerned bystanders on the shore called 911 and Michigan State Police rushed to the scene, with Motor Carrier Officer Kammeron Bennetts leading the pack.
The quick-thinking officer quickly called for help from Ruby, the man’s faithful pup, who hovered close to his side above the icy surface.
Bennetts couldn’t reach the man due to the severe icy conditions, so he asked the man to send Ruby to him – and when Bennetts called her name, the well-trained dog rushed to his side.

He attached the rescue disk to Ruby’s collar and sent her back across the ice to where the man was trapped in the icy water.

‘Bring your feet to the surface by kicking your feet!’ Bennetts screamed as he yanked the man onto the frozen surface.
The hero officer continued to pull on the rope, dragging him to safer ice at the edge of the lake.
Bennetts, along with a local firefighter, were then able to grab his arms and pull him to safety, with Ruby still attached to the rope.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment and later released.
“The only other tool I had was ruby,” Bennetts said in a video reflecting on the astonishing rescue.

“She knew Dad was in trouble and she knew she had to do something to help too.
“He was in the water for about 16 minutes and it’s a miracle everything was as good as it was,” Bennetts said.
The agency hailed the rescue in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that particularly praised Ruby.
