Henry Ruggs will face between three and 10 years in prison for killing a woman and her dog while drunk driving in 2021, as the former Raiders wide receiver officially accepted a plea deal on Wednesday.

Ruggs told a judge last week he would admit to driving drunk at speeds of up to 250 mph in the accident, which caused a fiery and ultimately fatal crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor.

He would have received a mandatory prison sentence of at least two years — and possibly more than 50 — had he been convicted at trial, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said shortly after the crash.

Ruggs waived a long-delayed preliminary hearing last week.

The three-year minimum sentence that Ruggs has accepted cannot be lowered by converting the year and a half he spent on house arrest to the time he has already served.

Ruggs’ attorneys lost several bids to challenge evidence following the November 2021 crash

Ruggs and his attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, immediately declined comment and left the courthouse with a group of about nine people after the brief appearance in court.

The lawyers last week called the plea deal a “first step toward a fair resolution of this case” and “closing for all parties involved.”

Since the crash, Ruggs’ lawyers have lost several attempts to challenge evidence, including that Ruggs had a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent — twice the legal limit in Nevada — after the rear-end accident that caused a fire that killed Tintor and her pet died. dog max.

Police reported that computer data from the airbag showed Ruggs’ 2020 Chevrolet Corvette slowed slightly from 250 mph to 200 mph seconds before crashing into Tintor’s Toyota Rav 4.

The speed limit in the area was 45 mph.

Tintor’s mother, brother and several other family members were in court on Wednesday but left with their lawyer, Farhan Naqvi, without comment.

Wolfson said investigators learned that Ruggs had spent several hours drinking with friends at a sports entertainment and golf venue, and may have spent several more hours at a friend’s house before he and his girlfriend Je’nai Kilgo-Washington headed home.

Kilgo-Washington underwent surgery for an arm injury after the crash.

Other charges against Ruggs were dismissed under the plea deal, including reckless driving, drunk driving that significantly injured Kilgo-Washington, and a misdemeanor charge stemming from the police’s discovery of a loaded handgun in his wrecked Corvette.

Ruggs was released by the Raiders shortly after the November 2, 2021 crash.
