Henry Cavill comments on missing out on Robert Pattinson’s role in Twilight films

Henry Cavill has talked about missing out on Edward Cullen’s role in the Twilight movies, as the film’s author Stephenie Meyer had hoped he would get the part.

The 39-year-old star, who can be seen on Happy Sad Confused podcast Wednesday, said he was unaware that Meyer had hoped to get the part, which he was passed over at age 24 for being too old to play the high school vampire.

The British actor said he felt there was no rivalry with Pattinson as he never knew he was wanted for the role in the first place.

“I knew nothing about the film,” Cavill said. “I didn’t know they wanted to cast me and the internet wasn’t quite the tool it is today and I only found out later. I was like, “Oh okay, that would have been cool.”‘

Cavill, who went on to play Superman and appear in the Mission: Impossible franchise, said he was in the running for some prominent roles in his career but didn’t mind missing out.

“Essentially I came close to a lot of things and didn’t understand, but it’s funny that people think that’s a bad thing,” Cavill said. “In Hollywood – or in the acting industry – everyone is trying to get a part and they don’t necessarily get it.

And so, getting a chance to be in the spotlight by missing out on the big roles is actually a good thing rather than a bad thing. And for each of them I count my lucky stars.’

Meyer said on her blog in 2007 that she had hoped Cavill could have landed the part, putting Pattinson’s career on the A-list.

Cavill, who appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Wednesday, said he was unaware that Meyer had hoped he would get the part.

Meyer said: on her blog in 2007 that she had hoped Cavill could have landed the part (promoting Pattinson’s career to the A-list), but he had fallen out of tune by the time the project reached production.

“Years have passed, my actors have gotten older, and I think it’s time to recast the Twilight Movie. (Just for fun, of course! I still don’t control who gets hired.),’ Meyer wrote. “The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward.
