Four kittens were rescued from a crusher in seconds after they got stuck in a container filled with cardboard.

The three girls and a boy were spotted just in time on June 12 by workers at a recycling center in Witney, Oxon.

The six-week-old helpless kittens, who have since been named Pepper, Olly, Felicity and Serendipity, meowed pitifully in the garbage just meters from the crusher.

B&E Transport and Recycling Center staff carefully lifted them off the piles of rubbish and took them to Cornyard Veterinary Practice.

After being taken into the care of the RSPCA who are now looking for loving forever homes for them. It is not known whether they were dumped in the landfill.

Sharon Chrisp, Operations Manager at the RSPCA branch in Oxfordshire, said: ‘Thank goodness the kittens have been discovered! I can’t even think of them being accidentally crushed when recycling.

‘A very fortunate rescue indeed! We are extremely grateful to the staff at B&E Transport and Recycling Center for making the discovery and getting the kittens to safety.

‘They would have been so hard to see, rolled up in the recycling, it’s really a miracle they were found.

‘We’re not sure if they’re abandoned or feral – it could be that Mum found a cozy quiet place in the cardboard to live with her kittens or someone dumped them there on purpose.

“I am delighted to say that all the kittens are doing very well in foster care and have received proper veterinary treatment as well as lots of love and care. They are absolutely adorable and love to be picked up and petted.

‘At the beginning of July they will start looking for their forever home, although of course they are already very interested.’
