Helldivers 2 limits the number of simultaneous players to around 450,000 to help with server instability

Hell divers 2 developers decided this weekend to limit the number of simultaneous players to 450,000 due to server instability, but that hasn’t stopped thousands of players from enjoying the chaotic third-person shooter.

In a post on Discord, the developers, Arrowhead, wrote a message detailing that various server-related issues caused “some mission payouts to fail, some players to be kicked to their ships or logged out.” To resolve this issue, it was decided to limit the number of concurrent players to approximately 450,000 so that the team has time to “mitigate some of the root causes” and keep pace with scaling whatever is needed to solve all current accommodate players.
