The heir to a leading Australian seafood empire has been charged with a number of child sex and exploitation crimes.

Marcus Carlo Cappo, 19, stood before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in Adelaide on Wednesday on 25 separate charges allegedly made in Pooraka in the north of the city.

The charges include seven charges for obtaining a child for sexual activity, seven charges for producing and possessing child exploitation material and three charges for distributing the material.

The crime is said to have taken place between September 18, 2021 and May 1, 2022, reports The Adelaide Advertiser.

Marcus is the son of Matthew Cappo who, with his brother, is co-director of Cappo Seafoods, which has been a family business for three generations.

The company was founded in 1919 by six brothers after the family arrived in Australia from Italy.

There is no suggestion that Matthew Cappo or Cappo Seafoods is involved in any of the charges.

The court heard that prosecutors were in the process of deciding whether the charges would be classed as a serious crime.

Marcus Cappo’s bail was allowed to go through and he will appear in court next January.
