Heavy metal band Iron Maiden’s Australian show branded a ‘snooze fest’ after viral video circulates: ‘And the crowd goes mild’

Footage of a heavy metal band Iron Maiden performance in Australia is going viral after the concert was labelled a ‘slumber party’.

Thousands of metalheads descended on Perth’s RAC Arena on Sunday, September 1, to see the British group rock out during their The Future Past Tour.

But video shows the band’s fans barely getting into the mood for their performance, as they perform their 2021 song Hell on Earth.

In heavy metal performances you often see an audience mosh pitting, crowd surfing and forming circle pits.

In the video posted to TikTok, concertgoers can barely move their heads to the beat of the song as fireworks light up the stage.

β€œIRON MAIDEN in Australia wtf,” read the caption above the clip.

Fans reacted en masse and many were shocked by the poor atmosphere in the audience.

β€œAnd the audience softens,” someone wrote.

β€œThe energy of that crowd is enough to power a 7W light bulb,” said another.

β€œIs that audience still alive?” wrote a third.

‘Everyone’s standing there like meerkats. It’s Iron Maiden! Come on people, rock it, not even an arm in the air?’ added one user.

Some fans were not surprised and noted that previous concerts had the same atmosphere.

‘I saw them at Soundwave [festival]β€œ…was a soporific party,” said one fan.

Others felt the lack of enthusiasm was justified, given that the band has been active for decades – since 1975 – and suggested that their fans were older too.

β€œThey are Iron Maiden fans 70+,” one user said.

β€œThat’s what happens when they don’t play their most popular songs,” wrote another.

Iron Maiden continued their tour of Australia on September 6, performing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, before playing back-to-back shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on September 6 and 7.

The band will perform at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on September 10, before heading to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena for two shows on September 12 and 13.

Earlier this year, Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson announced that he had two titanium hip implants, admitting that this was due to his years on stage.

The 65-year-old metal frontman joked that he had the surgeries so he could keep up with his rock ‘n’ roll colleague Mick Jagger, 80, according to the mirror.

But he admitted the real reason was that he could barely walk after his recent US tour, An Evening With Bruce Dickinson.

Bruce told the publication: ‘I’ve cut down a little bit because I’ve had both my hips replaced.

‘After all that jumping on stage they were completely screwed.

‘I had to have it done because during the last tour in America it was so bad that I couldn’t walk after a show.’

The singer said it had gotten so bad that he even had trouble walking up the stairs.

Bruce underwent his first hip surgery in 2021 and his second in 2023.

And this isn’t the first time he’s faced serious health issues as he struggles cancer almost ten years ago.

The musician was being treated for a tumor on his tongue, the band’s website reported at the time.

The cancer was diagnosed during a routine check-up just before Christmas 2014.

He completed a seven-week course of chemotherapy and radiology.
