Heathrow is world’s 4th busiest airport after a bumper half-term

Takeoff: Around 7 million passengers traveled through Heathrow Airport last month – a 19% increase compared to October 2022

After a fantastic six months, Heathrow Airport has become the fourth busiest airport in the world.

Around 7 million passengers traveled through West London airport last month. This was 19 percent more than in October 2022, when 5.9 million people flew through the airport.

About 2.2 million passengers passed through Heathrow terminals during the October school holidays, with Dubai, New York and Los Angeles among the most popular destinations, Heathrow said.

And the huge demand means Heathrow is now the fourth busiest airport in the world, overtaking Denver, according to travel data provider OAG.

Atlanta – a hub for US giant Delta – remains in first place, followed by Dubai and Tokyo.

Before the pandemic hit, Heathrow was in seventh place. But last month’s total was around 1 percent less than pre-pandemic levels in October 2019. Heathrow’s busiest year on record was 2019, when 80.9 million passengers traveled.
