Heather Rae Young is torn over ‘tone deaf’ Instagram post where she documented her son’s first flight in a private jet
Heather Rae Young was panned on social media on Sunday after she shared parenting tips for flying with babies — while riding a private jet — while marking her three-month-old son Tristan’s first time on a plane.
The 35-year-old TV star took to Instagram on Sunday with the post, featuring a photo carousel from the day of travel with her family.
They included her husband Tarek El Moussa, 41, and children Taylor, 12, and Brayden, seven, who he shares with ex-wife Christina Hall, 39.
The Selling Sunset personality said she had a “proud mommy moment” as the family headed to a real estate event called The Flipping Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona.
‘Our little traveling boy!!’ said Young. “Took Tristan on his first ever flight… Tristan did so incredibly well… he was such an angel.”

The Anaheim, California native gave her three million followers a “mom tip” on how she breastfed the toddler during their travels.
“I breastfed him on the way up and then again on the way down to help with the ear popping,” she said. “It worked perfectly and for the rest of the flight he just giggled, played and looked around and was so happy and didn’t cry once…he loved the new environment.
“He also slept the longest he’s ever slept in the hotel and it was amazing because between speaking or between events I would rush back to breastfeed him.”
Young and El Moussa married in October 2021 after a two-year courtship and welcomed Tristan earlier this year.
Young was heavily criticized in the adjacent comment thread to the post for being out of touch and flaunting wealth.
“I love you and think you are a wonderful wife, boss, mom and so many other things,” said one follower. ‘You exude positivity and inclusiveness.
‘BUT, this is tone def. Private jet with assistance, is not an achievement. It’s downright privilege (and your hard work) but ZERO [percent] recognizable.’
Another user said, “I’m glad it went well, but a lot of moms can’t relate to your flying experience in a private jet…” while another said, “Of course it was AWESOME. Try flying commercially.’

One user praised Young as an “incredible” mother and businesswoman, but said the post as a whole was “tone-deaf”
A number of followers took Young’s parenting tip with a grain of salt, pointing to her lack of acknowledgment of the benefits of private flying
Other users said Young lacked self-consciousness with the social media post
One follower criticized Young for being unrelated to the luxury life mail
One user pointed out to Young the drastic differences between a private jet and a commercial jet.
“Private jets don’t count as ‘travel’ on its first flight,” the user said. “Once you’re surrounded by hundreds of people, your kid will scream his head off in terror—then you can say you’ve traveled.”
Another user said Young lacked self-consciousness with the social media post, writing, “She can’t help it guys… it’s so hard being so self-absorbed.”
One follower criticized Young for being unrelated to the luxury life post: “Come on, you’re constantly complaining that nursing takes up all your time and energy, but how many moms have the luxury of private plane travel, chauffeurs across town, people having their hair and styling makeup …you all live a privileged life and want us to hang out!?!?!’
