A 29-year-old man has been charged with domestic violence-related murder following the death of a young mother who was stabbed in a ‘horrific scene’ on a public footpath.
The woman, named in media reports as mother of four Heather Ball, was found with stab wounds on Wednesday evening after emergency services were called to a unit complex on Short Street in Caboolture, north of Brisbane.
Police allege the 27-year-old woman and man were involved in an altercation at about 8:30 p.m. before she was stabbed.
“Police were called to a unit in Caboolture for a scuffle, a screaming woman,” Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said Thursday.
“Unfortunately, when the police showed up, a woman had been stabbed. She was immediately taken to hospital and sadly passed away.”

Queensland Police said the suspect fled on foot to a vehicle before a chase began.
Authorities tracked a Holden Commodore heading for the Sunshine Coast before crashing into a police car on the Bruce Highway.
Detective Acting Inspector Anthony Green said police attempted to intercept the vehicle near Caboolture before it entered the highway.
“The man didn’t stop, which resulted in tire pumps being deployed around Yandina before crashing into the back of a police car a short time later,” he said.
The Holden Commodore was reportedly traveling at high speed and ran a red light.

Two male officers, a senior constable and a sergeant, suffered minor injuries in the accident. They have since been discharged from Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
A 29-year-old Morayfield man was arrested and taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for examination.
Police later charged him with one count of domestic violence-related murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of dangerous driving, one count of evading police, and one count of violating a domestic violence order.
Det Insp Green said a domestic violence order was in effect and the woman was ‘the injured party’.
The commissioner called the incident “an absolute tragedy.”
‘A gruesome scene. A horrifying scene, not only for the police but also for the neighbours,” said Ms Carroll.
“They saw what happened. It’s on the footpath in front of their house, their units, and it’s very, very hard for the police to deal with, let alone the public.”
The 29-year-old Morayfield man is expected to appear before Caboolture Magistrates Court via video link on Friday.
Police are calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
