Heartwarming update on sole survivor of Corio fire that killed three siblings after a garden shed went up in flames

The sole survivor of four young children killed in a garden shed fire is said to be doing ‘very well’ as she recovers from the incident.

Mavis McGregor, 6, is being treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne after being rescued from a burning garden shed by her mother Jasmine Beck, who was sadly unable to save her three other children from the inferno last month.

Four-year-old Isaac, three-year-old Saige and one-year-old Ashlynn McGregor all died as a result of the fire in Corio, south-east of Melbourne, in October.

Mavis was rushed to intensive care, while Ms Beck gave a recent update to a Geelong community forum saying she is taken off life support for two hours every day.

“Mavis is doing very well,” Ms. Beck wrote on Facebook.

‘She had another operation today, just to change her bandages.

“But other than that, she’s doing a fantastic job.”

Mavis’ siblings said their goodbyes at an emotional funeral service in Geelong last week.

The police investigation into the exact cause of the fire continues.

It is believed that a lighter could have been the catalyst for the shocking tragedy.

The children’s aunt, Sarah Guardiano, said the mother of four “did her utmost best” to get the children out of the shed as quickly as possible.

“Getting all those babies out, as you can imagine, you know, having to call the fire department, put out a fire and get your kids out,” she said.

“She did her best to get them all out as quickly as possible.”

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started when a sofa caught fire, possibly from a cigarette lighter.

Neighbors said the siblings were usually seen riding bicycles through the cul-de-sac.

A family friend previously launched one GoFundMe page to help support the family.

“This family will never be the same without these children in their lives,” the fundraiser read.

“I hope to help this family alleviate the financial costs of putting these beautiful babies to rest, as this is such an unimaginable situation for any parent to experience.”

A loved one wrote a tribute to Saige and Ashlynn on Facebook immediately after the fire.

“I hate life sometimes,” he wrote.

‘Two little ones were tragically deprived of their lives today. May you both Rip Saige and Ashlynn lie in the arms of God, resting.”

“Two are in hospital in an operating room fighting for their little lives so can everyone please send these little warriors a prayer and wish them well and if there is a god please help them.”
