This is the moment when a pair of heroic students helped save a dog from a muddy canal in a daring rescue operation.
Jack Spencer Furmston and Ben Camphor, both 20, were walking home from a cafe in Manchester when they saw the dog’s owner, Batu Akyol, struggling on a leash over a wall.
The students soon discovered that the owner’s dog, Sumak, had fallen into the Ancoats Canal and quickly launched a rescue attempt with the help of five others.
The footage shows a group of people suspending Mr Camphor by his legs as he scales the canal wall to reach the dog.

Mr. Camphor can then be seen reaching out and grabbing Sumak by the collar, leading the dog out of the canal.
The dog struggles to catch on with its hind legs as Mr. Camphor manages to get his arms under his front legs, while the band of people above him lift them both up.
Mr Camphor said he suddenly saw a “guy on his leash in the river” and thought he must have been walking a duck.
It was then that he noticed a dog was stuck in the canal and appeared to be “really struggling”.
He added: ‘Everyone was in a panic. I couldn’t let that dog down and not help, so I dropped my sweater and sprang into action, going down first.

“I’m a dog owner so there was no chance I would leave him alone, but I couldn’t get him the first time.”
Camphor said the dog’s owner was “ecstatic” and they ran around the canal to celebrate after he was rescued.
Furmston said: “The crowd had started to build up so the tallest person, who was Ben, turned around and was able to grab the dog, as shown in the video.”
“Afterward, the dog was wagging its tail and jumping up and down, very excited.”
He added that he was surprised to see Sky News football pundit Gary Neville had liked the clip on Twitter.
Passerby Dabhidh MhicEamailinn shared the images on social media on Monday, February 13 with the caption “Dog rescued Ancoats.”
