The adorable moment when a baby heard her father’s voice clearly for the first time has caused quite a stir online.
Little Nellie Rosales of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was born with microtia and atresia, meaning she was completely deaf in one ear and could only hear softer sounds but had trouble hearing voices.
So when she got a “bone anchored hearing solution” and heard her father Jacob’s voice clearly for the first time.
The video shows Nellie, who is now 11 months old, getting a hearing aid and bursting into tears as soon as she hears her father’s voice.
The device doctors placed on her emits sound using vibrations from patients’ skulls, allowing it to bypass the ear canal.

Papa Jacob Rosales, 28, said: ‘It was difficult before I got a hearing aid. Every time I spoke to her, she looked the other way so she could hear me.”
“When I first heard her, I was blown away. It brought sunshine to my heart, even though she was overwhelmed.
According to Jacob, the difference is night and day and Nellie fell in love with her device within a few days.
He said, ‘Now that she’s older, we’ll make it fun. The difference is obvious. She can hear things from other rooms and also understands what we are saying.
“She hears dogs outside the house and no longer turns her head.
“She’s at the age where she lets us know what she wants and she gets really excited to put it on.”
The microtia and atresia had a major impact on Nellie’s life before the device was fitted.
Microtia causes one or both of a patient’s ears to be underdeveloped, and atresia is an underdeveloped ear canal.
Jacob explained: ‘We noticed immediately after birth that she has a small peanut ear on her microtia side.

“They did hearing tests at the hospital and she didn’t respond at all on that side.”
Jacob and his wife, Sharon Hernandez, 27, are both members of the U.S. military and are thankful for the health insurance they received that allowed them to get the device.
Jacob said, “I want to thank the army. The insurance we have is fine and the device costs $6,000.
“If we didn’t have the insurance, we would have had to take out a huge loan for the device, without that insurance it would have been very difficult.”
